When did you first start FPV racing?

It actually started early in 2014. I believe it was in February where a couple of guys including me organized Benelux Multirotor Races. We had been talking about doing it for a long time. That turned out to be a lot of fun and we organized a few more races in 2014. Back then we never realized that it would become really popular like it is now, because at the moment it's all about FPV racing.

At the end of the year when the weather became really bad, a couple of guys and I decided to continue racing in an empty car park and that was the most FPV fun I ever had.

What equipment are you currently using?

That's a nice question as I have a few different setups, all of which I like in their own way. I do a lot of testing for some of my sponsors and that's also probably the reason why I have different setups to be able to give honest comparisons.

But my racing fleet for 2015:

  • Blackout Mini H #1
  • Cobra 2204 2300kv
  • Hqprop 5x45 Bullnose
  • SN20 Blheli 13.2 flashed ESC
  • Cleanflight (oneshot125 enabled and PID controller 2 luxfloat)
  • 1800mah 35 or 65C nanotech lipos

Remarks: Maybe my favorite at the moment as I fly the most with it.

  • Blackout Mini H #2
  • Cobra 2204 1960kv
  • Hqprop 5x45 Bullnose
  • SN20 Blheli 13.2 flashed ESC
  • Cleanflight (oneshot125 enabled and PID controller 2 luxfloat)
  • 1800mah 35 or 65C nanotech lipos

Remarks: My main spare quad, which is always with me in case the mini h #1 fails somehow so I can continue flying.

  • Blackout Mini H #3
  • Cobra 2206 2100kv
  • Hqprop 5x45 Bullnose
  • SN20 Blheli 13.2 flashed ESC
  • Cleanflight (oneshot125 enabled and PID controller 2 luxfloat)
  • 1800mah 35 or 65C nanotech lipos

Remarks: This one is still experimental and can't tell much about it as I am still testing and tuning this one.

Who are your favourite pilots?

There are many guys out there all over the world who are inspiring me and I like to follow on YouTube.

Metalldanny, Finalglide, juz70, charpu, ummagawd and so many others. Guys, don't feel bad if I didn't mention your name, but I mainly love to see some nice action in FPV videos and it's especially the 250 sized mini quads that I like the most.

What advice would you give to beginners who want to fly like you?

My advice would be to first get yourself a nice setup and do some research about what gear is commonly used. I have seen so many guys struggling with the gear or bad equipment. That can be really frustrating once you start in this hobby.

But the most important thing is to have some fun. You don't need to fly long-range or very high to get the best FPV experience. It's the short-range flying, which is the most fun.

And the best thing is to have at least two setups with you as having one extra gives more confidence so you know that once something doesn't work you can continue flying and enjoying ;)

What is your favourite place to race?

My favorite racing spot is still in my head actually. I am visualizing a track in a building with different levels and more vertical aspects combined with gates and other objects where you have to fly through. I can imagine having that in a couple of years.

Who would you most like to race against?

I definitely would like to spend a day with the guys I mentioned above and have some fun :D I bet some stuff would be broken.

Is there anything else you’d like to say about FPV racing?

Make sure everything is done safely, that nobody gets hurt and FPV racing doesn't get a bad name. At the moment I only see positive things about racing drones unlike the Phantom pilots creating commotion all around the world, flying in some really unsuitable places to get some nice footage.
